Welcome

…to the King Street Regeneration website. Here you will be able to view the latest proposals for the regeneration of the west end of King Street. This website has been provided by King Street Developments (a joint venture between Grainger plc and Helical Bar plc) which is working with Hammersmith & Fulham Council to regenerate the area around the existing Hammersmith Town Hall.

This major regeneration scheme will bring with it a number of far reaching benefits for Hammersmith and also makes financial sense for taxpayers across the whole borough. The regeneration of the site will provide for a step-change in development in Hammersmith – bringing together the benefits of public and private partnership to deliver significant investment into high quality architecture and a modern environmentally efficient scheme.

A planning application for the regeneration of the west end of King Street was submitted to Hammersmith and Fulham Council in November 2010. After listening to the views of local people, developer King Street Developments (KSD) has made a number of significant changes to the design of the King Street Regeneration scheme, primarily aimed at reducing its scale and impact.

The opportunity to consider the changes came as a result of the Council's changing requirement for office space within the scheme. This allowed the project team to make a number of important design changes in response to the consultation without affecting the viability of the scheme. These changes have now been submitted to Hammersmith & Fulham Council.

The changes:

  • A reduction in the residential building closest to the river of four storeys
  • A reduction in the size of the floors of the main residential buildings and the office building resulting in much slimmer profiles
  • The removal of one storey of the office building
  • A reduction in the number of homes to 290 (from 320)
  • Introduction of four town houses, with roof gardens, fronting onto Cromwell
  • Avenue to respond to the surrounding buildings and residential nature of the street
  • Improvements to the design of the raised Nigel Playfair Avenue to improve access for the disabled, elderly and families with pushchairs etc.
  • The realignment of the footbridge over the A4 to reduce its impact on surrounding buildings

The amended scheme will still deliver all the benefits Hammersmith needs including:

  • 290 new homes (286 apartments and 4 town houses)
  • Bringing back the public square in front of the listed Town Hall
  • Cafés and restaurants around the square
  • A new Council office building (at no cost to the tax payer)
  • A new step free footbridge, over the A4, linking Hammersmith town centre with the river once more
  • A new, community sized supermarket
