Frequently Asked Questions
There has been lots of information circulating abut the proposals for King Street, so we just wanted to take the opportunity to give our response to some of the issues raised:
The height and the risk of setting a precedent:
Since the planning application was originally submitted in November 2010 the height of the office building has been reduced by one storey and and the residential building nearest the river has been reduced by four storeys. The residential buildings have also been redesigned to be much slimmer than in the scheme submitted in 2010. This is a town centre site suitable for landmark, well designed, high density buildings. Permission for this scheme cannot set a precedent as every planning application is assessed on its own merits (note how the Premier Inn in Hammersmith is not surrounded by buildings of the same height).
The impact on existing residents on the site:
We have always understood that for those people who live on the site, this project is about their homes. This is why we have and will continue to discuss their issues with them directly and will help them practically and financially with their relocation. For those who are partially sighted and supported by The Pocklington Trust, the Trust has already informed them they will also help them when they move if it is necessary.
Loss of the cinema:
Whilst it is unfortunate that the cinema will not be replaced, a report commissioned by a specialist cinema consultant concluded (included in the application) there is insufficient demand for the cinema to continue to operate as Hammersmith & Fulham has the second highest number of cinema screens per head in the whole of London.
Impact on Furnival Gardens:
The bank that allows step free disabled access across the A4 will shield noise from the A4 and will be grass covered. The grass bank will take up approximately 10% of the total area of the gardens.
The supermarket:
No operator has been confirmed for the supermarket. The supermarket will be approximately 2,000 sq.m (20,000 sq.ft.) - slightly larger than the existing Sainsbury's in Kings Mall. It will be used mainly for 'drop in' shopping, rather than big 'weekly shops', minimising the number of car journeys it will generate.
